Review: Bracketron Style-iT 2-in-1 Pen with Touch-screen Tip
Posted by: MASMedia in iPad, Reviews
We’ve recently had a chance to review the Style-iT 2-in-1 Pen from Bracketron Inc.
Here’s the overview directly from the Braketron website:
- The omni-directional soft tip adapts to any writing style, right handed or left handed
- Style-iT can be used for multiple touch screen devices
- Keeps your touchscreen free of fingerprints and smudges
- Built-in ballpoint pen offers added convenience, great for quick note taking
- Integrated clip is perfect for your pocket or briefcase
Let’s start with the materials and build quality. This nifty little pen exudes quality with an all metal body, no cheap plastic to be found here. It appears to be extremely well built with a pen cap that snaps on and off with a satisfying “click” that will keep it from falling off and drying out the tip. The rubber like tip for touch screen devices seems durable and ready to take whatever abuse you can throw at it. The weight is solid and it feels comfortable in the hand. The clip is made of metal and feels strong. It doesn’t look like it would be easy to break.
Now looking at it’s first function as a pen. It performs as you would expect a well built pen would, in that it wrote very smoothly with no blotting and the ink didn’t run or smudge. After using it regularly for a week, it hasn’t dried out once and the ink was always available when needed. As a pen, it’s one of the better ones this reviewer has used in a while.
It’s secondary function, the touch tip, works just as well… when it works. This pen was tested on a few devices including an iPhone 4, and Acer Android Liquid E, and the iPad2. It performed very well on the Apple devices and made accurate touch actions a breeze. It was responsive and even more accurate than my finger for those actions where precision was needed. When tested on the Acer Liquid E, it didn’t work at all. We’re not sure why this would be the case, but it seems to be a common issue with other devices as well. I tried it on the touch panel on my laptop and it worked when a bit of pressure was applied. Not quite as easily as on the Apple devices.
Pros:
- Excellent build quality
- Smooth writing with the pen function
- Great touch screen function with Apple devices
- Inconsistent touch functionality with other devices
