Despite persistent rumours of delays, the Nokia N8 ships today.  The statement issued by Nokia reads:

“Espoo, Finland -Nokia’s latest entertainment smartphone, the highly anticipated Nokia N8 with Ovi services, has started shipping. Customers who have placed a pre-order for the Nokia N8 in Nokia Online Shops and Nokia retail stores will be the first to receive their Nokia N8. Residents of the city district of Rosengård, Sweden were treated to a movie night they will never forget, powered by a Nokia N8 through it’s HDMI port in stunning high-definition. About 1,500 people turned up to see “Prince of Persia” and it’s estimated that another 1,000 local people simply watched it from their apartments or balconies. The previous world record was held by Pinewood Studios in Middlesex, Great Britain, with a cinema screen measuring 73.1 metres wide and 18.3 metres high and with a total area of 1,338 square metres.

Nokia N8 Smartphone – The Commuter – Behind the scenes by Nokia UK. Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl), Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) and Pamela Anderson (Baywatch) feature in the upcoming short film ‘The Commuter’, directed by the McHenry brothers who are releasing their debut film ‘Jackboots on Whitehall’ (starring Ewan McGregor, Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant and Timothy Spall) later this year. The cameramen on ‘The Commuter’set used an adapted steadicam system to hold the Nokia N8, which was used as the sole device for filming.

Heres a demonstration the very first prototype of a hacked Sensetta rover platform, controlled instead by an Arduino “breakout” board controlled over Bluetooth by a custom scripted Google Android app. The use of the Android-Arduino combination on-board the vehicle reduces the weight, energy consumption, and maneuverability by removing the Max Kernel computer and router.
