MeeGo Software Platform Chosen by the GENIVI Alliance

The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, today announced the GENIVI Alliance has chosen MeeGo as the basis of its next reference release for In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI).

MeeGo is an open source platform hosted by The Linux Foundation that brings together Intel Corporation and Nokia’s previous projects and is designed for computing device types including smartphones, netbooks, tablets, mediaphones, connected TVs and IVI systems. Adoption by this major automotive alliance is a testament to the cross-device, cross-architecture advantages of the MeeGo platform. GENIVI is a nonprofit industry alliance with founding members BMW Group, Delphi, GM, Intel, Magneti-Marelli, PSA, Visteon and Wind River.

Nokia 5230 and Nokia X6 running Android OS   Advertising Fail!

One of the Nokia Blog readers spotted this ad in the UK (London) of the Nokia X6 and 5230 running on Android OS. As we all should know by now, Nokia do not have any plans at all to add Android to their devices. Someone is going to get fired for this, or what do you say?

UK: Android now make up 13.2% of the market

Android’s UK market share has grown by more than 10% in a quarter, latest GfK figures show. Android handsets now make up 13.2% of the market, compared with 3% in Q1 2010. The increase in market share equates to a 350% increase in the sale of Android phones, despite contract sales growing by less than 1%.

GfK analyst Megan Baldock said: ‘The figures suggest an increasing number of consumers are now asking for Android handsets by name. Operating Systems are no longer simply a by-product but a key selling point in their own right.’

Offscreen Technologies, a games, productivity and entertainment app developer, today announced that their apps have been downloaded more than 34 million times and from 210 countries on Nokia’s Ovi Store.

Offscreen Technologies applications are available for Nokia touch devices, like the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia N97, Nokia X6 and Nokia N900. Several Offscreen Technologies apps have been downloaded more than million times each, like Level Touch, Bright Light Touch and Labyrinth Lite Touch.
