Nokia is asking consumers to choose the design for its next smartphone in a bid to win them over amid growing competition from rivals. The manufacturer is asking customers to decide between three designs for its ‘ultimate concept phone’ as part of its ‘Design by Community’ project. Nokia has been struggling in the face of tumbling profits and a poor selection of smartphones. According to a July YouGov survey, the number of consumers considering buying a Nokia handset has fallen 12% in recent months.

Hewlett Packard (HP) will not use Windows Phone 7 on its future smartphones, the company confirmed last week. The IT giant’s European vice president said HP will use WebOS on its smartphones but will use Windows 7 for its Slate tablet, due to be launched later this year. HP has also registered the name PalmPad recently, prompting speculation it is about to launch a rival to the iPad which will run on WebOS.
