In this video the folks at pocketnow.com tests three different CPU platforms for smartphones: the Qualcomm Snapdragon (on the Nexus One), the Samsung Humminbird (on the AT&T Captivate), and the TI OMAP (on the Motorola Droid X). We test each device in a variety of tests, including boot up time, internet speed, Google Earth, and YouTube video streaming. We’re trying to determine, in practice, which CPU platform is fastest.

Nokia, the world’s biggest handset manufacturer, has reported a 40% year on year decline in profits for the three months ended on 30 June 2010. Profits at the manufacturer over the last three months were 227m euros (£191m). Nokia reported that gross margin on devices and services has fallen to 30%, down 34% from the same period last year and down 32% on the last quarter.

This is a video showing the build of the Welikesmall iPod wall. It was made from 20 iPods over the course of about three weeks in our spare time. Tasks included building and designing the wooden box, programming an iPhone application that runs off the Game Kit framework, hacking a USB hardware fan together, developing a Python / Django web server application, and designing a quick UI. To keep the wall constantly powered they used a Cambrionix B2 USB powered hub.
