Video: Google Navigation vs Nokia Ovi Maps

Aaron visited the SF Bay Area, so he and Noah from PhoneDog grabbed two GPS-enabled smartphones and hopped in the hybrid for a day of cheesy tourist stuff. What better venue for a Navigation Dogfight between Android’s Google Navigation and Nokia’s Ovi Maps?

  1. Good review, thought it was fair, but maybe would have been fairer if a Nokia phone with a larger screen had been used ? I find Nav on N97 works really well, and could use it without data charges outside the UK, Googlemaps can’t do the same thing !

  2. Agreed, why compare the E72 to a Nexus One and then complain the E72 screen is tiny? Well, of course it is. But it’s for business, not gps entertainment… I often use my N97 (in Sweden) for navigation. Finding position and re-routing is really fast and smooth. And I can store all maps and everything on the device, for free.

Yes, the competition is unfair. You should have used a N97 or N97 mini. E72 is a business phone with physical qwerty keyboard, so you can type with it much faster than nexus one. But when it comes to navigation, you should have used a touch screen model. Stupid comparison, stupid video. Just like the comparison between champagne and soft drink.

  4. well well, I was really surprised when he complained about small screen o e72! why were you using e72 or comparison? should have used a touch device of nokia. so as now you used e72 for it, that gives a + to nokia as its offering navigation on non touch devices also! anyway google was faster thats for sure but we would like to see another comparison while using nokia touch device and also using a predownloaded map on nokia vs download view on nexus one. well or my remarks, I was thinking that google navigation will be much much better then ovi, but ovi maps lived more then my expectations vs google.

  5. nice, but some places nokia maps leads the google seems dead, it can even find the highways…
