Gmail push sync not working? Google replies

Having problems with your Gmail push lately? This problem started for me 4 days ago and im still having problems with emails being pushed to my iPhone a few hours after they have been sent. Here’s what Google replied regarding their push service not working:

As many of you have noticed, Google Sync is having some difficulties due to an extended problem with one of our datacenters. This has been going on over the weekend, but it’s got significantly worse today, so I’m just letting everyone know what’s happening.

None of your information has been lost, and you will still be able to get your data through Sync, but you will find that Push isn’t working very well. This is because we’re batching up fetch requests to be able to cope with the traffic we’re seeing while this problem is ongoing. As soon as we’ve got the problem fixed, push should seamlessly start working properly again.

We’re working flat out to get this fixed, but unfortunately we don’t have an ETA at the moment. We’re doing everything we can to improve the situation in the meantime, and I’ll post here again when I have more news.

Finally, I want to apologise to everyone – we’re feeling your pain too, and we will get this sorted out as soon as we can.

Douglas

Update:

I should add that this is affecting Google Sync for iPhone, Windows Mobile and S60 – if you’re using another way to sync with Google (theBlackBerry sync application, Android sync and so on) you should be unaffected by this problem.

  1. ahhh no wonder! Found your page through a Google search. At least I now know they they know there is a problem! :)

  2. Quality, my gmail sync has been sucking for days and I was starting to blame my iPod touch. Good to know it’s a problem I don’t have to fix. :)

  3. I was beginning to think it was only me with this problem. This is affecting the way I conduct business so I hope a permanent fix is in place soon. This is the last thing I expected being a Premium google apps subscriber, but sh*t happens.

it’s amazing that you have to find out about this outage (which it is if you have to wait hours for your emails) through some extensive searching… Must have reset my phone like 3 times… Like many others I am using Google’s Active sync to stay on top of my business, and don‘t have the luxury to wait hours for emails to come in (or not). Switched to nuevasync and works like a charm…

  5. This still isn’t fixed yet and google is doing a HORRIBLE job addressing this issue. I’m at the point where I may switch to a MobileMe account because I KNOW that works. It’s flat out bad business to not directly address this issue by google.

  6. Dave +1 here. Push for Gmail still isn’t working on my iPhone 3GS (3.1.2). Happy I can get my emails manually.

  7. My Push stopped working today (3.1.2). Gmail has been erratic the past week? I hope nothing important wa lost.

  8. May 17, 2010 my gmail push is not working on iPhone.

  9. Ok. I am 3.1.2.

I (again) edited the settings of the puch gmail app, activated (again) and, lo and behold, it has been working ever since.
