nokia maemo

PhotoTranslator is a neat application for Nokia N900. It allows you to translate text from pictures to various languages. Imagine yourself walking on a street somewhere in a foreign country and you face a warning sign, but you have no idea what it says. Just take a picture of the sign and open it with PhotoTranslator, crop the text in the sign and PhotoTranslator translates the text to your language. In addition the PhotoTranslator can be used also for translating copy/pasted or typed text, not just for text from pictures.

iPhone: Application for checking if your iPhone is tethered or unlockable

f0recast is a tool for Windows that will check your iPods and iPhones to determine whether it is tethered, or unlockable (iPhone Only). It is just a real simple app for users who are confused about their device being tethered or able to unlock. It even tells iPhone user’s their Boot loader, so if you are an iPhone 3G user with the 5.8 Bootloader, it will notify you that you can downgrade your baseband if you wish to unlock. Vivaz Pro

In this video the people from Sony Ericsson talking briefly about the Vivaz and Vivaz Pro. The Sony Ericsson Vivaz pro is almost identical to the Vivaz but has some key differences. First of, it features a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard for the texting crowd out there and second, it has a 5-megapixel camera, as opposed to 8MP. Fortunately, it has kept its ability to shoot HD resolution videos.

iPhone: Square demos their card reader

Imagine being able to take credit card payments with a small card reader attached to your iPhone. Then imagine that the card reader is free, that you don’t have to sign up for a merchant account, and that the software enabling the technology only costs about $2. In April, you’ll be able to start taking credit card payments with Square’s new technology. TUAW editor Steve Sande visited Square’s Jim McKelvey at Macworld Expo 2010 and finds out how the technology works.
