This is Awesome!!! I can’t wait to see 1st Nokia with this Symbian
Apple gave original iPhone the 3.0 OS update. And probably will give the 4.0 update too. But nokia will never give the existing Symbian^1 users this Symbian^3 update. This is a very sick strategy. Although i’m satisfied with my 5800 and i’m sure hackers will port symbian^3 to s60 5th devices…but it would be nice to have it officially. The only difference is nokia n97/5800 don’t have gpu and capacitive screen so no hardware acceleration or multitouch. Processor, ram and ROM size might also be an issue. But then again..original iphone had 424mhz cpu and 128mb ram. iphone 3gs has 256 ram and 600mhz cpu. Both run the same OS now. So…..Come on Nokia.
@driq,
Most of the iphone 2g users have either updates to 3gs or switched to different mobile OS
as iphone’s OS 3.0 doesn’t work as good on iphone 2g. I got an iphone 2g from my company temporarily and i can confirm that. Btw, different companies have different policies. Atleast your 5800 has much better hardware than iphone.
@driq
I would guess that lack of multitasking is a one of the major reasons original iPhone gets these new OS updates. You can run only one application at once and it doesn’t matter if it takes like 50mb ram of the 128mb…
On Nokias multitasking and bad RAM is a no go for future updates now.
Looks great, I just hope it will be this fast after I install 5 apps and a theme.
I doubt a 5800 can handle this OS, the ram size will be greatly increased on the new devices … from what the video shows there’s 0 loading time on the picture thumbnails.
On the other hand, I’ve recently seen a 7700 device, that basically has a touch input and a symbian os that runs on a joke of a 150 MHz cpu, sometimes even faster than my xm5k8 that has a 434 MHz cpu. So maybe the code only needs to be a lil more optimized.
I have been on a symbian user since the 3650 but now the maemo platform holds more promise then the new symbian 3. At lest for me.
But what about providing this update to Samsung Omnia HD i8910 which has great processor,more RAM & a capacitive screen
hi to all…my question is upcoming new symbian^3 will compatible with 5800 or not?plz answer my qstion………..
sorry nokia 5800 have a processor of 369MHz of processor and a bit slow bcoz of less updates others have more updates than 5800.
