Apple App Store have 99.4 percent of all mobile app sales / downloads

Apple launched its App Store in just over 18 months ago, and has since taken over 99.4% of the market. Which generated 3 billion download (25% is paid Apps.)

Sorry but i would like to have some facts. it’s easy to claim something like that but not as easy to prove it. Where is the comparison between AppStore and other application stores? I want pure numbers. Right now this looks like some Apple marketing stuff which i would not take so seriously.
And amount of the downloads alone does not tell anything about the quality of the apps in store. You can have zillion almost free useless apps which noone really uses after download.
I totally agree with miksuh. This looks more like a free ad for Apple than an objective information.
In addition, Apple is the only one on the market to force people to go through AppStore to buy/download applications. How do you measure the number of downloads of Google Maps on Symbian ? The number of downloads of Handy Taskmanager ? etc…
