The folks at Wolfstarconsultancy (Sony Ericsson) was kind enough to send me a demo example of the Sony Ericsson MW600 stereo bluetooth handsfree (included in the Sony Ericsson X10 package).  The Sony Ericsson MW600 features advanced Bluetooth technology and a built-in FM radio. The device lets you stream music to your headset in high fidelity through sound-enhancing ear-buds.

In one accessory less than two and a half inches in length, Sony Ericsson has managed to pack in a Stereo Bluetooth radio (core version 2.1), an FM receiver, a 12 x 125 pixel hidden OLED display, controls for play/pause, forward and back, a touch-sensitive slider for volume control, a power button, a call control/voice dial button, a microphone, a microUSB port for charging, a 3.5mm audio jack, a clip to hold the unit onto clothing or a bag strap and a 170 mAh Lithium Ion battery that delivers around 8.5 hours of music playback while connected to Bluetooth (i got it to 6 hours and 15min of playback with my iPhone 3GS.

Ive always been a fan of the Sony Ericsson DS-XXX models due to the high audio quality (Music) and the MW600 will definitely replace my DS200 and the DS220. If you are fanatical about music, and have a compatible device, than you will fall in love with this device.

The only thing that bugs me with the MW600 is the volume slider (touch sensitive). I dont know if i got an faulty demo product or not but i always need to slide my fingers several times on the volume slider before it reacts on the command. There is no word on pricing yet, but judging on the quality the device will likely fall into the $100 – $200 range.

Pros:

  • Great audio quality
  • Compatible with any 3.5mm headset
  • Great OLED display
  • New standard microUSB port

Cons:

  • The volume slider (touch sensitive) is really hard to handle. I usually need to slide my fingers at least 2-5 times on the touch buttons before the handsfree reacts.

  1. these are veeeery nice.. Now that X10 actualy has a decent price, i will probably be taking these babies running with me :)
If they do indeed come with X10, this is the only place i heard it.

  2. yeah i love the MW600, the audio quality is great and it have never “buffered” the song while listening to music. to shame that the volume slider is kinda messed up ;)

  3. Nam Le Nguyen says:

    i love that:X:X:X

  4. In the manual it is specified that it take two steps to change the volume.
First you swipe your finger along the volume strip and then you swipe it for the 2nd time set it to the desired level. There is also a shortcut if you want to increase the volume, in that case, after swiping the volume strip you place a finger on the maximum position on the volume strip (there is a dot there) and hold it there until you have the desired volume.
So your only con is by design
