No. The applications can be made to be in portrait mode but from what I have heard there are no plans to make the phone itself (the desktop) to flip around. There aren’t any plans to do so either. Either the open community will step up and fix this or it will just be stuck like this forever. I too believe that it was a bad move by Nokia to do this but I guess there was a consensus somewhere about it staying landscape.

Too bad. If they added portrait mode and bt keyboard support it would be the best thing ever made.

Guys the portrait mode mode came just now with the firmware upgrade the N900 got last week.The reason it is hidden is simply because it is not yet finished.There are odd quirks with the on screen keyboard etc,this video does not show it but you can see it in others on you tube.It is hidden so that right now only developers can test it out and file any bugs,and yes there IS a feedback section for maemo exclusively.
So now you would agree that it wouldn’t have been wise of Nokia to document or publicize an unfinished feature to the masses and face more criticism for the same.

“For the sake of the next Symbian version Nokia, please think.” Nokia N900 runs Maemo 5 (Linux distro) so, i think you meant: “For the sake of the next Maemo 5 version…” . Since it’s based on Linux, I expect other features to also be hidden under the roof Anyway…I’m not sure if they put this in the manual (if there is one) but if they didn’t, I also think they should.

Ok this is getting silly with Nokia now, Nokia know that people were kind of ‘oh is doesn’t do portrait’ when it released, why the hell did Nokia just not mention this, doesn’t have to be a hidden feature if you tell people.

For the sake of the next Symbian version Nokia, please think.

And please per phone number set up a Software forum section on support.nokia so that people can give feedback, its the only way you will learn….even then I fear you may not
