HAHHA. i updated it finally tho. Its smooth without card. Icons changed a little. OVI contacts are included. Performancee changed much faster. When tapping, the bar glows grey. That’s all i could see for now . OH YEAH. ANd a homescreen like the 5530. ENJOY!

can any one tell me what is about the camera does any performance improvement or not?????????

Lots of you guys should now give some apologies to Nokia based on past rants here.

Development takes time, don’t forget that.

I cant update when it writes 15 min. left phone restrarts and NSU gives error i tried with Ovi too it gives same error too it sais connection to phone is lost recovery needed i am just about to go crazy!

like miksuh says, developement takes time.. they could have done this quick with bugs in the software, but then everybody will say the update sucks

Good news…I thought, then connected with Nokia Suite only to find no update available. Do us NAM users have to wait another 6 months like we did for the previous firmware update?…Come on Nokia…why so long delays for NAM??

Great news that KS finally made it to 5800. Can’t help but feel the timing is a little telling though, the 5800 is now about a year old, seems Nokia are trying to soothe the anger of 5800 owners in the hope they might buy another Nokia in a month or so when their contract runs out.

I had to hard reset before I got the new homescreen, Nokia like to make you jump through hoops to get new stuff.

Right have got the update finally, firstly i had to format my memory card, some existing apps cause the new homescreen to go blank and/or grey it out. So for the people who have this issue, try taking out your memory card, you will see the screen goes back to normal, only fix is to format the card as I cant figure out what app causes the problem.

New things (Good & Bad)

-Calendar alarm has new animation when the reminder sounds.

- BIGGEST COCK UP though is that you can no longer make a custom profile or even change an existing one, options are there but nothing happens. (Thanks Nokia)

Overall im happy but DAMMMMM you better fix the profile thing, i cant even change the ring tone

It now supports WLAN with EAP/TTLS-PAP!!!!
For those who do not know what it is: This wlan connection scheme is used at most european universities (eduroam.org), which nokia users could not use up to now.

any idea when ireland will be getting this. i’ve tried using the NSU on my phone but no joy still using v31.0.101 ? my phone is unbranded??? any idea how i can get the update

another change i discovered , not sure if u didn’t is that the radio can work on the homescreen just like the music player if u push the red button !

who are not able to update go to nokia care they will give u update …… i am from india here only the peoples having v31 r able to update through nsu but the other who have v30 or less r not able to update through nsu …… so it shows update is not available

I was so angry that nokia abandoned my 5800xm NAM rm-428 model

Now after 6 months of trying to update via NSU, i have been successful quite easily and successfully updated from fw. v20. to fw v31.2.8 HALLELUIA!!!!!!!

god!! everyone is so annoying me now! ;( i want it!

managed to perform the update with little trouble but i find that when ever i open up the wireless security options then go in to eap settings and try and edit eap-ttls it crashes to menu

the new homescreen is get stuck at startup and also it eats up more ram now at startup i only have 45 mb ram free while previously i was having 59mb ram free at startup

the new firmware is a problem.
Once the keypad is locked, try charging your 5800.
The home screen will light up and will NEVER turn off even though i had set the light to be off in 5 to 10 sec.

@Johannes: Have you managed to successfully connect to eduroam? I updated my phone and can see EAP-TTLS/PAP. However, I am having trouble connecting to eduroam.

After a lot of experimenting I have finally managed to set up Eduroam from Monash University (which uses PAP).

how amazing is v40 but i cant get it!!! i have ran fota and nsu and it says there are no updates. on the nokia website it is deffinatly there so why? also my nsu wont work because of a configuration error, aparently. help on this please!!!

I am also awaiting the v40 update for NAM. It really just can’t come soon enough.

the update is out there and all but only for certain productcodes, menaing if you are on orange you have a long time to wait hurry up orange !!!!!!

Just got my 5800 today. I had a 5530 and I wanted GPS, so I was well aware of the 5800′s firmware shortcomings compared to the 5530 (which I still have and will probably keep as backup phone). I was sooo happy today playing with my new GPS phone and decided to get a licence for turn-by-turn nav… I didn’t want to pay. I get into Nokia Maps’ page and OOOOHHH SURPRISEEEEEEE!!!! t-b-t nav is now FREE!!!! So I try to install it and it says I need v.30 at least… I try to update (had v20) and It told me I had the latest FW over the air… I was devastated… no free nav… but I insisted, downloaded Nokia Updater and again, i had the latest… but I insisted again, and again, and suddenly it just accepted the update. I disconnected the phone after the Updater checked the model and reconnected when it told me there was an available update. Maybe the program checks for custom version in that moment and you can bypass that by disconnecting the phone. Hope this helps someone. Cheers!

i cannot update my 5800music express type RM-356 firmware, i currently using v 21.0.025 but nokia website says the latest version is 40.0.005. i was unable to update using *#0000#->options->check for updates. it says that no update available. i tried to update using nokia pc suit nokia software updater. ive updatet the nokia software updater using version 01.08.010.40008. and this software says im up to date but nokia website says im not.
what should i do?
by the way, my product code is: 0575378

use navi firm to find out which update is available for ur phone and then try the nokia pc suite again, if it still doesn’t work then go to the local nokia care center

its been months and still no available sw update for my 5800 black RM-356 in philippines! I’m stuck with v31.0.101 since last update in november 2009.

I made a guide on my blog covering all the necessary steps, from finding out what product code is right for your phone, to changing the product code and updating to the latest firmware. Works in windows XP/Vista/7.

why v40 update is not available in PAK

yes it dorees, i hhave done it a few days ago and works perfectly, except i have not used this peticular guidde on changing the product code, but still recommended to change it, dont forget to install handy shell, ill gve you the key for it if you need, because if you have not got it than ytou cant install anything because you need to close down the nokia installed on the phone in order to install form the computer. if u need more help thank email me at

silver coloured phones on on orange product codes are now being updated!! my dad receievd a replaceent from orange the uther day and it had v40 i checked fota and wham UPDATE!!!!

i updated mine yesterday with FOTA!
I had V31 and there was no update available (belgium) and all of a sudden i could update it to V50.0.005
So i think (and hope) that you don’t have to wait to long anymore
