Starcraft running on the Nokia N900 Gameplay

Here’s a video gameplay of Starcraft running on the Nokia N900

To install this you need to have rootsh installed. If you don’t have it yet please install it through the Program Manager (with maemo extras enabled). Also you need to have a memory card inserted in the N900.
First you need to get the files from the original Starcraft CD with Stargus:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/stargus/
Download Stargus
Put your Starcraft CD in.
Install Stargus and when you’re asked for select the CD-Rom drive.
When finished exit Stargus and go to the directory, where Stargus was installed (C:\\Program Files\Stargus)
Copy the CONTENT of the Data directory to your memory card to memorycard:\\games\stratagus\
Next you have to download this file: zehjotkah.ddl.at/stratagus-0.1-4_armel.deb
Copy this file to the root directory of your memory card.
Open X-Terminal on the N900 and type in the following:

root
cd /media/mmc1/
dpkg -i stratagus-0.1-4_armel.deb

Now it gets installed and you’re ready!
When you see this code while installing Stratagus:

Code:

Setting up stratagus (0.1.4) …

/var/lib/dpkg/info/stratagus.postinst: line 7: maemo-select-menu-location: not found

It doesn’t mean anything serious. That was the category selection menu in maemo 2008 (diablo). In maemo 5 we don’t have this selection menu but it doesn’t matter, the game installed fine.
If you already have Warcraft 2 installed, you first have to rename your Warcraft 2 games directory on your memory card.
Have fun!

Credit goes to linman who has ported Stratagus for maemo and the Stargus team.

    1. Amazing… that it runs so nicely on n900… and that the guy on video has never played Starcraft!

    2. OMG . HAHA. I agree though. BUT wont it gets laggy with the processor speed of only 600mhz and 256 mb ram? LOL. Btw how do they right click ? :D

actually the ARM Cortex A8 with 600mhz is faster than the Snapdragon with 1ghz. also the n900 does have 700mb virtual ram.
right click: double click in a square of 35×35 pixel (double click on one pixel is very very hard).

Actually no, it’s not “faster”, as both are based off the cortexA8 CPU. By definition, the Snapdragon has a higher frequency, so it goes through cycles faster. What you might be trying to say is that it renders polygons faster. Actually, it doesn’t do that in raw settings either, but since the PowerVR SGX hardware accelerator in OMAP3 is better supported than the modified version in Snapdragon, it often does produce better polygon rendering results.

Guess how many polygons are in Starcraft? Very few. It’s all sprites, which you can argue are squares, but in general, a game like this will run better on snapdragon. A polygonal game that depends more on hardware rendering could definitely edge out snapdragon though on the OMAP3 or S5PC100(iPhone3GS)

    7. Could someone re-up the video please?
