Googles Nexus One Official

After many leaks and hands-on’s the Nexus One has just been officially released by Google a few minutes back. Unvieled by Peter Chou, CEO of HTC and head in the creation of the Nexus One’s hardware the superphone(as its called by google) is what the leaks predicted:

- The specs match previous leaks. It’s a 3.7? AMOLED display with a trackball.

- It comes with features such as a light sensor, GPS, and accelerometer. These are all features pioneered by Apple’s iPhone.

- It’s 130 grams in weight and 11.5 mm in width, about the width of a standard #2 pencil.

- The camera is 5MP with LED flash.

- The audio has received an upgrade. It has two microphones, one of which is used for noise cancellation.

- Customization is a key to the Nexus One. There are five home screens to cusotmize your interface.

- Google showed off some of its dynamic touchscreen features of the software.. For example, one of the wallpapers is a lake with leaves. When you touch it, it will ripple. It’s quite nifty, actually.

- They worked with the team at CoolIris to visualize photons on the Nexus One in a 3D environment. If you tap on an album, you’ll be able to quickly scan and load photos. You can also tip and dip photos based on your hand motions and the accelerometer.

As you can see from the above picture, Google is comparing the device to a pencil even though the phone isn’t ground-breakingly thin.

  1. I don’t think the iPhone pioneered the light sensor and GPS on phones, we had these features long before Apple released their product.

  2. Yeah, I think I remember my old N95 having all of those features back in march 2007 :D

  3. Ofcourse I meant the features “pioneered” by iphone , hehe

  4. No FM radio and compass?

  5. Interesting to note that while Google claims that this will be available in 48 countries, you can only buy one now in 4 countries. I can’t even order the phone and send it to a US address because my country is not one of those 4. However, there is a way to get around that resctriction ;) But still not quite what we had been told or expected.

  6. It looks cool I like that its thin. The Trackball sucks especially when blackberry is going with the trackpad, and I agree with Mark iPhone did not pioneered the light sensor and GPS on phones, these features were long before Apple released there precious Iphone (the best phone ever) yea right.

  7. the iphone did pioneer a single thing written on this post. thats some major misleading report by a whole tech site. i hope phat_trance will corret it. the rwishi dude sounds like an apple iphone fun boy!

  8. Steve –> where on this post has rwishi gone “iPhone fanboy” on the article?

  9. I agree with others, those features already existed and not pioneered by iphone.

  10. Pioneering, in a way of making these type of specs mainstream. Tell me, how many devices had similar specs, even in the Nseries, only the N95 was similarly specced. It’s was only after the iPhone that most smartphones were released with such specs. Don’t give me this apple fanboy thingy, I am still an nokia fan as well as being an apple fan…

  11. Disagree. Many phones had some form of GPS and Light sensor. Rwishi, pioneering means taking the initiative, becoming the first to do something. Making something mainstream does not mean you pioneered something. I could say the next touchscreen phone after the iPhone pioneered touchscreen phones but that would be wrong. No one here is arguing about the specs, they are disputing the word “pioneered” in the context that you wrote it in. GPS and light sensor were available on many phones (probably most of them NSeries Nokias but that means THEY pioneered them, not Apple) and to this day GPS is still not entirely mainstream, it is usually offered only in more higher specced phones.

you could say they pioneered the use of capacitive touchscreens. AFAIK the iPhone was the first to not use a stylus in a touchscreen phone and the accelerometer comment is probably true too but without further explanation the pioneered comment is misleading.

  12. actually the n95 also had an accelerometer if you remember apps called rotateme and nokmote made use of it.
