The Nokia Messaging for social networks beta got updated today and guess what, the app now finally supports Twitter. The new beta currently supports the Nokia N97, Nokia N97 Mini, and Nokia 5800.

The network, which opens today, covers only the central parts of Stockholm and Oslo. In a press release TeliaSonera writes that this is the world’s first active networks based on LTE, the next-generation technology for mobile broadband.
- The use of mobile broadband explodes and customers demand higher speeds. Therefore, we launch the 4G services in both Stockholm and Oslo, “said Kenneth Karlberg.
LTE technology, stands for Long Term Evolution, opens for maximum speeds of 100 Mbps, but how fast connections are in practice remains to be seen. Coverage at this stage is very limited and extends only in the central parts of Stockholm and Oslo.
Update: At launch, the 4G network will provide speeds up to 50 Mbps. In 2010 it is possible to get up to 80 Mbit / s according to TeliaSonera.

Once upon a time… Thursday 26 November 2009, at the crack of dawn a shiny new package arrived. The Nokia N900 comes out of Nokia’s newborn Maemo an adaption from their linux-tablets range. Maemo is to be host to Nokia’s new top-end devices. On removing the N900 from its box the first thing that comes to mind is ‘wow, it is a heavy beast of burden, well equipped in size and weight to to carry out its duties.’
Nokia is to implement furloughs next year for approximately 2,000 members of staff at its Salo plant in southwest Finland.
“The duration of the furloughs will be determined during talks. Any single furlough won’t last over 90 days,” said spokesman Tapani Kaskinen. The furlough plans means that 20 percent of the staff will be laid off.
