At Bat for Android will be released during Major League Baseball. The application is available at present for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. The app is available for download via MLB.com but is not available on the Android Marketplace due to the fact that the app is still in its testing phase. For this reason the Android version will be free.
Using At Bat for Android you have content such as box scores, play-by-play updates, high-lighted video reels and live scoreboards to mention but a few. As the app is available free it will not include live streaming video. However, this is due to change next season presumably with the app then requiring a fee for purchase. MLB state:
“We were intrigued by the adoption of Android and the recent announcements by carriers releasing devices in the coming weeks and months, and we wanted to take this opportunity during World Series” to test it out, said Adam Ritter, vice president of wireless at MLB Advanced Media. “The beta Android app will give us the feedback we need from a product and technical perspective to see what’s possible for next season.”
According to MLB the MLB At Bat 2009 and MLB At Bate Lite is currently available on 1.2 million devices.
