SmartMovie demoed on the Nokia 5530

Rita from Symbian-Guru demoes the SmartMovie application on the Nokia 5530. You can find the video after the break…

SmartMovie Application handles .avi files without any prior conversion on S60 5th edition. Nice interface, great features, and most of all no stuttering and no lags.

“Thank you for the nice review. LCG Smartmovie (with its current version 4.15) is certainly a good application for avi playback. Unfortunately, there are some issues that prevent a this software to be an absolute winner for S60V5 devices (excluding Samsung Omnia HD).
First of all, you mention Divx avi playback, without going into the video file details. You see, currently Divx(5) avi is much less used as a video encoder, than it was before. Most of the films and TV shows are encoded and distributed in Xvid avi format, where advanced filters and optimization techniques are used to produce a very clear image at high compression. It is a pity that your sample size didn’t include such videos.
I’ve tested them on Smartmovie and was disappointed with the results. The reason is that Smartmovie doesn’t use a hardware acceleration and relies on its software decoders to produce a video playback. At the end, you will have to convert the Xvid avi videos to be able to play them smoothly.
I still use the RealPlayer: convert videos in a batch mode and enjoy the high quality playback at native resolution.
I sincerely hope that LCG will improve its player, or that CorePlayer will finally make its entrance in S60V5 devices.
    Cheers.”
