Which OS are you running on your computer/ And which model of ipod/iphone are you trying to JB? If its an 8gig ipt3 then your pretty much screwed.

Using Windows 7 .. And My Ipod touch is 8 GB .. the guy in the video said that just the 32 & 64 GB are 3rd Generation .. !

The 8GB is 2nd .. Even i bought it After 9-9-09 ..

Yeah the 8gig Ipod Touch uses the old CPU and stuff, but there is obviously a difference from the 2nd gen hardware. George Hots said if your model number starts with MB then it should work, if its MC then it wont and you’ll need to do a restore. Hopefully someone will find a fix in the next few days. On the upside I just bought a 32gig ipt3, its still a tethered JB, but at least it does work.

Hopefully George Hotz will figure something out, as I don’t hear any talk from the dev-team. There is also greenpois0n from chronicdev which might solve this issue. But to be fair I’m not expecting an untethered jailbreak for ipt3 anytime soon.

I take it you have an 8gig 3rd gen touch also? If it’s 32 or 64 gig then the model number isn’t important.

If anybody’s having problem in windows xp, make sure .NET and .NET SP1 is installed. Mine worked after I installed them.

i have an iphone 3g v3.1.2 its stuck on a black screes and shows the itunes symbol and the usb cord. showing to connect to itunes. it has done this numerous times and im getting pretty tired of it. any help??

Kaylin, if blackra1n fails try opening another instance of blackra1n and run it again. Failing that most issues seem to be OS related, so if possible run blackra1n on a different PC.

I’ve been trying this since Monday the 12th and couldn’t get it to jailbreak. And I found these instructions from “PuG” on another site AND IT WORKED.. FINALLY ! ! !

Well ive been trying this for a awhile now and mine is a it 3g 8g with mc model, but only thing is my screen goes black after when its supose to reboot. is that why the model matters in this issue?

I heard that the new 8gig ipod touch wasn’t vulnerable to 24Kpwn, but they are now saying it is still vulnerable, it just works differently. As a result it should always be jailbreakable, but its likely it’ll always be a tethered jailbreak.

It took a few days for the 8gig issue to really surface, but with the 32 and 64gig ipt3G having issues and the bootrom being changed in newer iphone 3GS its only a matter of time before someone finds a solution.

@3bdalla & Tomlee mine has been doing the same thing been trying for half a day now also kinda wish I would have never updated

Sounds like your computer isn’t sending over the blackra1n payload. Have you tried running blackra1n on another computer? I have a 3rd gen 32gig touch and I’ve used blackra1n on 3.1.1 & 3.1.2 without any issues.

CTaylor’s solution doesn’t work for me. I keep getting the picture of the USB plug, arrow, and itunes logo on iphone 3 gen 8 gb, and message on XP computer “Itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes.

Turn off itunes, reboot iphone, and get the same picture of usb plug and same message.

Finally got mine to work on a iPhone 3G! Here’s my settings for VistaX64 users. Am using Ultimate, but I’m sure it’ll work for all VistaX64 versions.

1. Back up/Sync your iPhone 3G
2. Do a Shift-Restore to 3.1.2. This makes sure the iPhone is totally wiped and upgraded to 3.1.2, so you’ll have a brand new Factory Settings environment after upgrading.
OR
Upgrade to 3.1.2, then hit Restore to bring the iPhone to Factory Settings.
3. Close iTunes.
4. Hit CTRL-ATL-DEL and run Task Manager
5. Hit Show All Processes
6. End ALL processes that are connected to Apple.
eg, mdnsresponder.exe(Bonjour Service), iTunes.exe, iTunesHelper.exe, iPodService.exe, AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe.
7. Close Task Manager
8. Unplug iPhone 3G
8. Save blackra1n in C:\
9. Right-Click blackra1n and hit Run as Administrator.
10. Hit make it ra1n
11. Plug in your iPhone 3G
12. Magic! Your iPhone 3G is jailbroken!

No more getting stuck at the “connect to iTunes” screen. Then install Cydia/Rock/Icy as preferred OR run iTunes and restore to your previous backup. Whichever one works for your first. Enjoy!

No luck. I followed P R B’s directions, but just got the USB plug and itunes logo on the iphone, and the jailbreak popup screen said “running”, but it wasn’t (no CPU time being used.)
When I rebooted iphone, the “running” screen changed to “done, wait for reboot” (but I had to reboot to get to that screen) and another popup came up saying “Enjoy your jailbroken iPhone”, but not picture of the dude, and when I restarted the phone, nada.

I noticed that AppleMobileDeviceService.exe keeps restarting, even when I kill it, and if I disable the service, the iPhone is not recognized when it is plugged in.

If you have a new 8gig touch then you’ll have to wait till someone figures out a jailbreak for it. The current version of blackra1n won’t work.

Finally got my 3g 8 GB to work with blackra1n. The problem was it was hooked into a usb hub instead of directly to the computers usb port. After that perfect jailbreak.

with the mc model all i get is when i see geohots face, the ipod shuts down after the right amount of time and then it never restarts and there is nothing you can do to get it to restart. so then you have to go into itunes and reformat it. it really sucks. i need some help

The only way that i could get my phone to jailbreak using blackra1n was to kill anything to do with apple with ctrl alt del and have my iphone 3g 3.2.1 in flight mode

As far as I’m aware there currently is no solution if your 8gig touch model is MB. Basically you just have to wait till someone figures out how to jailbreak it. On the upside it is still vulnerable to 24Kpwn, so it shouldn’t take too long.

My iphond 3gs 32gb with mc model didn’t work. After successfully ran blackra1n it won’t reboot at all.

It’s a tethered jailbreak on iPod touch 3G. That means every time you reboot your touch you’ll get the restore screen, just plug it into your computer and run blackra1n again and it’ll boot. You have to do this every time until someone figures out an untethered jailbreak.

I have the Iphone 3G…8GB…I make it rain from BLACKRAIN and my phone just goes into plug into ITUNES logo while blackrain says its running…then nothing happens…on my computer it shows blackrain being jailbroken, but I never see the picture and have to keep re-booting phone to try again…no luck…any help?

my ipod did that for a while but after about 3 times of trying different things, it finally worked. and i have done it twice since then. i think what i did, was i either restarted my ipod or i just completely put it back to factory settings and then i ran blackra1n. it worked perfectly

George Hotz Said he just bought an energy drink and an iPod touch with the problematic MC model number. So I’d expect a solution to the 8gig touch issue pretty soon.

Just heard that blackra1n RC2 is due out tomorrow, it should sort out most of the problems.

will that fix the issue with the mc models? i know so many people with that model because they had to replace their itouch.

So we have Windows XP, NOT vista, and it won’t work. Flat out. We’ve tried tons of the things suggested above and from other websites, but most everyone is doing it on VISTA so that doesn’t exactly help. The model number starts with MB not MC or anything. Um forgive me for pointing out the obvious but there is this really cool thing called google, if you ask it about .NET then it will tell you everything you need to know. As to XP being the problem, I’ve used blackra1n on Windows 7 and XP, I haven’t done anything special with XP it’s pretty much a fresh install, although I do have .NET installed.

just reconnect the Ipod touch to your Pc, with itunes and blackrain running…when the itunes tells u that the ipod is back to restore… run blackra1n and it will boot up again… this is a tethered hack, so everytime you turn off your itouch you will have to do the same thing to make it “boot up” i found it a waste of time so i’ll just wait for a permanent jailbreak to come up o.o

I have jailbroken an iphone 3g and an ipod touch 2nd gen. If you have windows xp it should work. i tried with vista a bunch of times and my iphone got stuck in recovery mode every time. Using Windows XP should work. hope this helps!

Type ‘blackra1n no wifi’ into google and you’ll find all the information that you need. From what I gather different things work for different people, some are saying that resetting the network settings then opening Rock worked for them, others are saying they had to restore to factory, and then use blackra1n again. Chances are you’ll have to try a few things before you fnd one that works for you, but don’t give up as it does work.

Hey guys I really need urgent help!! I got black 16GB 3GS unlocked phone but it doesn’t seem to work with the network here in Egypt so it never worked till now telling me to install a readable SIM. I have a iphone 3gs, and i used blackra1n rc3 to jailbreak, and when through all the steps…. installing cydia, snow, and everything worked sweet. However, each time i restart my phone, or turn it off, the phone goes to the CONNECT TO ITUNES screen. Then I have to go to blackra1n again, run it, and then only can i use the phone again.

ANY SUGGESTIONS???

If you have one of the newer 3GS models then you fall into the same category as the 3rd Gen ipod touch, in the sense your jailbreak is tethered, as far as I’m aware there currently is no way around this issue, until someone finds one you’ll just have to keep connecting to your PC everytime you reboot your phone.

I had to add .BAT at the end of the name. Blackra1n.BAT It worked but when I clicked add Cydia, it deleted everything except blackra1n! Now I can’t do anything!!! HELP!!

Connect your iPhone to a computer and run the blackra1n.exe from there. If that doesn’t work hold the power button and the home button on the front of the iPhone, I believe it should put the iPhone into recovery mode, then use iTunes to restore. I’ve never actually tried recovery mode so I could be wrong, but it’s gotta be worth try.

If it’s all working fine, then I’d give recovery a miss. If it happens again though might be worth doing a restore. Also worth noting newer 3GS models require you to use the blackra1n app everytime you reboot the phone, this maybe the case with yours.

Hi, I live in Australia and my iphone is an original AT&T with 3.1.2 7DLL, it accepted and installed blackrain but I cant access cydia as I cant connect to internet on my australian sim card. It will however accept incoming calls so it unlocks the sim for incoming only, but I cant use anything else, I cant even get to springboard. Is there any way to unlock the iphone? Please help

Hi I have installed blackra1n successful follow through the guide. However after i have selected the option of installing cydia.. after it install cydia simply never appear in my iphone.. I have tried installing rock or snow apparently none of the icon appears after i installed them.

Well, to the one of you who says “do ppl rly need a tutorial” and those thing – when I was first hearing about jailbreaking, I thought that it was a really hard process, and that there should’nt that much to do it, before the iPhone was broken. I first figured out how easy it was, when I decided to finaly do it – so that probably why ppl need tutorial.

I have the 3rd generation 8 gigabyte Ipod touch. After I learned about jailbreaking it in the first couple of days I had it I downloaded blackra1n and ran it successfully the first time. A couple days later I accidentally shut it off. I tried to reboot it by running blackra1n again but nothin just a black screen. I tried it quite a few times but got the same result, Nothing. I restored it and have updated to the 3.1.3 firmware. Does anyone know what I can do to get it jailbroken again. I am currently running XP on my desktop but will have my laptop with windows 7 in a week, february 16. I would greatly appreciate a response that will work I really don’t want to have to restore it again. It took a while the first time.

If you’ve updated a 3rd gen iPod touch to 3.1.3 then you probably won’t be jailbreaking it any time soon. It’s a harsh lesson, but never update your iPod unless you know the new software can be jailbroken.

hey, i found the video really helpful, but I have a problem. My brothers ipod worked, but when I tried to hack mine, it shows the restore sign and freezes. Ive also tried reseting it and downloading it HUNDREDS OF TIMES. HELP!

I did all the steps that you told me to do….
but after it shows the guy on the screen with the iphone i get a message that pops up and says “Your jailbreak is done once the device reboots.” Now i let it try to reboot but i never does. it will sit with a black screen and not do anything…..
I unplugged it, and the connect to iTunes picture comes up. i tried to reboot it again and then it turns off and i have to reboot it again…… Then it does the same thing over again…. I dont know what to do… help MEEEEEEE.

now it works everything is fine but whenever i switch off my phone, then switch it back on it shows the itunes connect to usb thing. everytime that happens i connect it to the computer ( this wont let me use the phone whatsoever ) and it doesnt load up on itunes. Whenever this happens i have to jailbreak again through blackra1n for my phone to go to the home page :s

how do i fix this?

Seriously all of these questions can be answered by using google. If you are unable to google for solutions, then jailbreaking isn’t for you. Sorry if this sounds a little harsh, but its the reality of the situation.

To the person above it’s called a tethered jailbreak, you unfortunately have a newer model 3GS with the new boot rom and there is no solution you will have to continue using blackra1n everytime you reboot you iPhone.

hi there i have a 32gb ipod touch 3G the model is MC, im running 3.1.2, im using a mac to jailbreak my ipod, im using blackr ra1n, but when ever i press make it rain the screen goes black and the plug in to itunes logo comes up and it just stays there ive never gotten to the mans face b4 and i have not idea what to do please help

Just like hp0o my Iphone 3GS stuck at the second run.
My iphone was already jailbroken so it wasnlt the first time.
I did a format on my pc yesterday so had to download the newest Itunes.

When I plug the Iphone to my windows pc (XP) Itunes pups up. after I close it I can run blackrain. As usuall I get the Geohotz picure on my Iphone.
When I try to run blackra1n again it keeps on waiting for the device.
After couple of minutes the Iphone reboots it self.

Any solutions how to get my Iphone up and running again?

i have a normal ipod touch 1g/2g. if i download the 3.1.2 firmware then do everything you said in the video, will i be able to turn it on and off without having to connect it up to my pc and run black rain ?

mine dosn’t work. itunes comes up and says i need to restore it but i have and then it won’t let me use as an administrator when i side click on the icon.

I installed Cydia on my iphone it ask me who are you and gives me 3 choices
1. user “graphical only
2. hacker “+ command line
3. developer “no filters

k so i just ran the blackra1n program and now a box popped up and it says done, wait for reboot, i have now ben waitin for 35 minutes and it is still turned off, what do i do?

Are you getting the picture of Geo Hotz on your phones screen? If it doesn’t Work first time, open another instance of blackra1n and hit the make it ra1n button again. If it still doesn’t work make sure you aren’t running OS 3.1.3 if you are then give Spirit a try.

Yes Geo comes on the screen and then the phone shuts off… doesn’t loop. So if I run Blackra1n again it just says “waiting for device…”.

I can turn the phone back on and Blackra1n justs runs again – goes to Geo’s face and turns off.
I think I’m going to use MuscleNerd’s “Last Ditch” method to partially update to 3.1.3 and keep the older baseband. Shown below:

OK, I now help desperately.
I have a 3GS, 3.1.2
Windows XP, itunes 9.1
I use Blackra1n for 9.1 (which I have used in the past week without a problem)

NOW, starting yesterday, I make it rain, I get ‘done waiting for reboot’, Geoman just stares at me for a long time, and after about 10 mins, the phone goes back into recovery mode. I have run multiple instances of Blackra1n, I have disconnected/reconnected the USB, etc. etc. Geoman used to be very fast, and now he gets stuck, and is smirking at me…what am I to do?
