Popular features

Innovative and Easy-to-use

Living up to our vision of providing the best Internet experience on any device, Opera Mini 5 boasts a powerful new user interface. Merging the best from our desktop browser together with new innovations for mobile phones, Opera Mini is advanced, yet highly intuitive to use.

Tabs

With tabbed browsing you no longer need to interrupt one session to start another. Use your web-mail in one window, Facebook in another, Twitter in a third and all that while checking the latest sports results. With Opera Mini you can easily identify the different tabs and jump between them.

Password manager

No more hassle with those hard to enter user names and passwords. Opera Mini 5 will remember your credentials and you can log on to your favorite Web sites with just a single click. The passwords are stored on your phone for your convenience.

Full Web in your palm

When visiting a Web page, Opera Mini displays the overview of the page and suggests where to begin your reading before you zoom in. Opera Mini also detects when on a Web page designed for a mobile phone and displays it optimally.

Touch & Keypad

The user interface has been designed for both touchscreen and keypad style mobile phones. With a touchscreen you can enjoy even easier navigation with our new zooming and kinetic scrolling.

Speed Dial

Get your favorite Web page with just one click. Speed Dial is a set of visual bookmarks you see when you open a new tab, like a dashboard for your on-line life. To add a new page, simply click on an empty Speed Dial slot, and Opera will make suggestions based on your browsing history and bookmarks.

Built for speed

Time is precious. Opera Mini compresses pages by up to 90% before being sent to your phone meaning faster page load times than in other mobile Web browsers.

Find things faster

The new Opera Mini lets you search for text within a Web page so you can get to the information you need even quicker than before.

Power scrolling

Scroll at warp speed using your phone keypad or by dragging the page on a phone with a touch screen.

  1. Saw this earlier and downloaded it right away for my 5800. At last, tab browsing and speed dial! Great upgrade for Opera Mini. Worth the wait.

  2. indeed, opera mini is definitely the best mobile browser for the moment!

  3. the’ve also added an onscreen text input(compaired with tha earlier versions, wea texts were done in tha phones text editor)….but thea is no copy paste as suggested…

  4. David –> http://images.intomobile.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/OM516.jpg

From intomobile: The copy and paste is also a bit misleading since the text you select to be copied is not copied into the operating system clipboard, meaning I can’t copy text from a webpage, switch to the Notes application on my Nokia E71, and then paste the test. No, in Opera Mini 5.0 the text that is copied can only be pasted in to another field within Opera Mini 5.0.

  5. Great features but I have some problems. I tray to check my e-mail on gmail, first page load fine, but no response after I press sign in. Also no response after I press other links in others page (tryed my.opera.com from speed dial). I have nokia 5800 xm and wifi connection (that work fine from others devices).

  6. did u try to close and start the app again?

  7. …yes, but the same problem

  8. I have same problem! After loading the first page, still nothing happens…:(

  9. I have changed Socket to HTTP (Settings – Advanced – Protocol) and now work fine… ZUPER. Write here if it work for you too.

  10. Great!!! problem solved…tnx…

Beta Opera 5 is little slower than last version, i hope he will be faster…

  13. does it provide touch support…you know s60v5 nokia 5530?

  14. Frisk01 –> yes it does

  15. works fine on my Nokia 5800!

  16. The new beta works great on my nokia 5800 xm. In fact I’m writing this message with opera 5 on my device right now.

  17. opera mini 5 is excellent.working great on my nokia 5800 .Thanks to opera team.im eagerly waiting for this version

  18. Hi,

I love this new version but it just will not work properly on Nokia 5800, the first page of any website i try for the first time will partially load, after that nothing else loads.

Even the quick dial page, i have changed it to my preferrences but the tiles dont change, still shows standard 3 defaults, the links behind them have changed just not the image.

Its not my connect which is WiFi, i have tried my home 7mb connection and a work connection of 50mb so its something with the phone or the app on this phone. Im on software v31

Anyone else with these issues ?

  19. COLM, read post no. 9

  20. Thanks Dani, tried that yesterday and it didn’t work, must have been all the users on the opera server, its work now. Finally a brilliant browser

  21. guys, dont forget that this is just a BETA!

  22. awesome features, but i have a problem:when exit opera beta 5, my 5800 restarts!! anybody faces this problem?

  23. This update seems nice at first. But after playing with it for 24 hrs it seems to cause as many problems a it solves! Pros: looks nice, kinda like the start screen, tabbed browsing is nice, much more stable on my 5800 (no crashes). Cons: scrolling is very sticky, much slower than 4.2, kinda miss the old start screen, no easy way to get to your home page, having problems with the tiles on front screen- pages dont ever load, even on WiFi. I know this is a beta, it has lots of potential but hoping a lot of these issues are ironed out! For me, default browser still wins. (writing this on 4.2).

  24. When u used it on my n97 i have problems using my qwerty keyboard. when I want to put on E it shows 3 and the T it shows the 4. Ans that goes for all the keys. Anyone knows about this problem? thx Kevin

  25. i can’t see youtube or any flash sites :/

  26. First impression – seems solid enough (on a N95+8Gb) so will

A couple of minor issues compared with 4.2 – I assume these will be looked at

    1. No synch for the start page
    2. I can’t find a way to load a page already zoomed in
    3. When you press * or # the reminder popup doesn’t appear (I should know these by now…)

@Nstirton – the start screen is on the # 4 shortcut as before :^D

  27. Oops – hit send before finishing the first sentence:

First impression – seems solid enough (on a N95+8Gb) so will try it out for a while

  28. Id imagine that the SkyFire touch browser for symbian 5th edition will be released very soon, no way SkyFire will want Opera to get too big a head start. When this happens finally proper flash support.

Opera, seriously make Flash work and nokia make all new phone support flash 9

  29. do u know if its free i mean to use in ur cel

  43. Having the same problem as Tayo with my Nokia 6700…Could somebody please help?

  44. I’m having the same problem as the 3 posts before me, but I tried the other Opera applications, and got some message about not being able to connect, however, I can use the web browser just fine. The smallest bit of help would be amazing.

  45. Yup, my integrated web browser also works fine, and even the preinstalled Opera mini 4.1. works smoothly.

  46. Hey guys I was having the same Resource Download Failed error on a Nokia 5530, Here what I did to solve the problem:

    I went to:

    1. Configuration -> Application Admin -> Installed Applications ->
    2. Then I select Opera Mini 5 beta and hit on options
    3. Then I opened Suite Configurations
    4. And in Access point I selected the Wifi Connection to where opera will connect.

And that’s it! I could open Opera on this cellphone…

I hope it’s usefull for you!

  47. tigeraboud says:

please i have sonyericson w810i and i have the same problem “java.io.IOexception” can any one help and i have this problem too “no detect conectionn” please help

  48. So as I mentioned it above I had the following error message when installing opera mini 5 beta on my nokia 6700:

    “resource download failed java.io.IOException”

BUT I could successfully install Opera mini 5 beta on my nokia 5310, work great…

So I’ve copied this installed version to a memory card, and placed it in my Nokia 6700. Opera mini started nicely, it “works off-line”, BUT it simply can not connect to any website, since it encounters a network connection problem.

I don’t know what is still the problem..the integrated browser works fine, and I could use Opera mini 5 beta on my 5310 too… :(

  49. I would like to say, excellent post. Im not sure if it has been talked about, however when using Safari I can never get the whole post to load without refreshing alot of times. Maybe just my computer. Thanks

  50. I also has “resource download failed java.io.IOException” when installing v5, on the SonyEricsson Equinox.

There is actually a signed version of v5 available, and it worked when I installed that one.

When you are on the download page for v5, instead of clicking on the download link, go further down to the link that says something like “signing options for Opera Mini 5″. The next page will give you the option for multi certificate, etc, just as you normally see for v4.

I don’t know why the unsigned version didn’t work, because I was able to enable all permissions for it before launching it.

  51. help me guys…. i cant install to my N70 tha OM5 beta 2.
    “resource download failed java.io.IOException”

  52. Guys, here is the solution for Sony Ericsson Users! For “Resource Download Failed IO Exception Error” – Simply move the Opera Mini application to Phone memory. Start the application. Wait for few seconds. Enjoy browsing ;)

  53. hi it s verynice

  54. pls hw can i download opera 5b2 for free?

  55. Auwal:

    mini dot opera dot com.

I don’t even know how one would pay for it if they wanted to.
