there do not seem to be any significant changes in this firmware, unfortunately. It does not include kinetic scrolling, nor does it include the newer homescreen layout. It also did not fix the homescreen email notification for Nokia Messaging, unfortunately. It seems as though this was a maintenance release, which is unfortunate. It does, actually, include the new Ovi Maps 3.0 interface, which was revealed at Nokia World 2009.

Still no changelog found yet.

I want kinetic scrolling on 5800 but there isn’t kinetic scrolling this version i hope next version have kinetic scrolling

I have a RM-428 and my version is 31.2.008, no kinetic scrolling but the scrolling in the contacts menu was improved and its very smooth an easy now to search, I hope that in the new upgrades to come it will the same in all the menus.

Update is real…. here are my impressions:

Okay, people …. here’s what I’ve noticed in v31:

Sound quality thru headphones and using 3.5mm out is better

When tracks or albums are deleted in Music Player, a % is shown as they are deleted.

MUCH quicker screen rotation, HOWEVER, the random accelerometer bug (where it just stops working) is STILL there in this FW.

apparently, there is a new maps version although I haven’t tried it. I don’t use Ovi Maps… only Google Maps.

it added the “IM” program in the Applications folder, which, for obvious reasons, I don’t use. Useless to me as it is most people I’m sure.

NOTICEABLY faster browsing… screens refresh quicker, better touch response, although still uses internal memory quite a bit. Also I’ve had ONE crash since I updated so it’s not totally ROCK solid yet but I can easily deal with it.

smaller shortcut “arrow” in the bottom right of full screen browser, looks new

no homescreen changes that I can see

missed call indicator light bug MIGHT be fixed…. I haven’t seen it happen yet.

NO KINETIC SCROLLING in this update…. in menus OR browser

same overall touch response IMHO except for browser (see above)

seems like it boots with a bit more RAM (if i reboot then close all apps I have like 55mb ram) … not sure if the actual MEMORY MGMT is better or not yet.

i have just updated my firmware from V30 to V31! i must say the changes arent so visible unless you have a better look!

ive noticed another changes!.. theme effect is available when you use accelerometer.. means using the screen horizontally! its really cool! it doesnt freeze compare to previous firmware. and its also faster! The sound too is pretty good!

nokia what are you waiting for to release another firmware?? =p

every time they release a new update, I hope they have fixed the alarm clock, but no! see, what annoys me to no end is that you have to use the same keypad you write on to set the time of alarm. so, as I use the full screen qwerty to write, I also have to use it to set the alarm. not only do I have to rotate the phone sideways, the plain old numeric keypad would be a thousand times more convenient. who needs 2/3 of the screen filled with buttons that you can’t use while typing in the time. why nokia why?

I’m in the USA and we are still on v2 firmware. I think our version of v2 might be a bit more stable and better than other countries since i’ve had no problems with my phone.

I’m interested in trying out the new firmware. Can someone tell me in which countries it has been released? I’m going to try and trick the phone into updating the firmware by doing a hard reset and picking the country where the v3 firmeware is offered. Hopefully that will allow me to update to v3.

Guys, My Nokia updater is still giving me v21.0.25 and I have also tried Nokia US and Nokia Europe, and both are still on the V21. Which country/s is/are offering v31 for download?

a bug in the image viewer which deleted autorama images has been fixed. this is the only difference I noticed.

I found another improvment:
In v30 firmware when you were marking text (from right to left) on for example full qwerty screen and you drew outside the text to the icon on the left, marking from the right was getting to disappear . It was annoying and it is fixed now – marking doesn’t disappear from the right when you go with stylus too far on the left.

I got my 5800 here in Brazil sponsored by TIM The firmware version they have available is 20.0.012. I´m experiencing some halts and freezing on many situations… The NSU does not allow me to upgrade due some stupid regional settings or model number. Do you know where can I find the last 5800 firmware version available without using the NSU? Is ther a site that I can donwload and install bypassing this stupid limitation?

Mind you but 31.0.008 update is actually 140.5MB in size. makes OTA seem impossible however.just new OVI maps n slightly improved overall performance.sound quality improved through 3.5mm jack. no major update u can brag about..

i have a problem i’m not very happy with and its driving me crazy, i have firmware version v3.0.101. my 5800 loses my photos and places them elsewhere and gives a not enough memory msg when i try change my alarm tone. if this persists with no aid, i am bombing out emails tell people how horrible your product is…..

nokia just provided update to v4 firmware for usa market
before it was only available in asian market

you should upgrade to fix any errors or discomforts in performance

Updating Firmware on Nokia 5800 is much more easier Over The Air(OTA) but sad to say not all carriers fully supports that operation, we’re just lucky one carrier here in my country fully supports firmware updating via air,Good job “SMART” We the subscriber just hope you expand more of your hspa service countrywide.

Version 40.0.005 has arrived wid kinetic scrolling. The performance is too gud!!!! Try updating by pressing *#0000# and then options and then check for updates. I m sure u will receive the data from nokia.
