14.4Mbps Vodafone Tops Mobile Broadband Speeds with HSPDA

14,4Mbps is the new maximum speed for Vodafone’s Mobile Broadband service. Already initiative in the most busy areas of Liverpool, Birmingham and London, the rest of the UK will get the increased speeds on an ongoing basis while the service is updated. The new high-speed downlink packet access (HSPDA) is a 3G technology variant. Chief Technology Officer for Vodafone, Jeni Mundy, said “network upgrade means customers can be reassured we’re consistently enhancing the quality of our network in response to demand”.

There is speculation that 14.4Mbps is unrealistic and that few, if any, will benefit from the full increase, due to one, the amount of customers using the same station and two, the distance from the nearest base station.
