Sony Ericsson HBH IS800 Review and Photo Gallery

Yesterday i received my Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800 bluetooth headset from Sony Ericsson and here’s a short review of the headset.  The Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800 package comes with the earphone, a carrying case, a charger, a clip and a multi-lingual manual. The clip can be quite handy when the cable is too long for you. Sony Ericsson also provides three sets of different-size earbuds in the package, though the even smallest pair were still a smidge too large for my small ears. Nonetheless, I was able to get a reasonably good seal, and the overall fit seemed comfortable, secure, and discreet. The headphones stayed snug as I walked (and then ran) around.

Music Sound Quality
In general, the headphones delivered great-sounding tracks, with crisp vocals, warm (but not overwhelming) bass, and clear reproduction of background instruments – such as a tambourine’s jangles. I found, however that dance music, like acid jazz, tended to come across as a mishmash rather than distinct tones.

Connectivity:
Pairing of the device with my Sony Ericsson W902 was simple as it auto-pairs and entering the four zero’s for the passcode was certainly a lot easier than having to try and pair manually.

Call Sound Quality
The microphone is housed in the cord that connects the earbuds, about 2 inches below the left earbud, along with the single device control button used to accept and end calls. The headset paired easily and calls were handled reliably. Voice quality was easily intelligible both incoming and outgoing, although not always perfectly crystal clear. One caller noted a slight background ‘hiss’ but I didn’t notice this. It is nice to have stereo phone calls instead of the one-side common to most Bluetooth headsets.

Conclusion

If you’re willing to sacrifice some phone and music controls for an ultrasmall headset (and the  150$ hefty price tag is no barrier) the Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800 is a headset for you

The Good

  1. The Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800 headphones are ultracompact and let you cut the cord from your A2DP-compatible music phone.
  2. The earbuds offer deep bass and generally solid sound quality, and the package includes a storage box.

The Bad

  1. The Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800 headphones may not fit all users well
  2. They’re pricey (150$)
