Found this tip over at HOFO on how to editing the predictive text dictionary on Symbian S60 devices. Thx to tom.aku for the tip.
.
Ok guys, after suffering for a few days with my N95, and doing research and trial and error regarding predictive text, I found a tip and I would like to share with some of you, so you don’t have to put up with what I did…
PROBLEM:
in a text, when you want to type “you” you get “yot”
or..a similar problem…when you want to type any word, you get another word for the first choice…unless you hit the star key to spell other words..to get the word you always want.
Your question is, HOW DO I FREAKIN DELETE THE “FIRST” WORD that comes up and make another word the first choice…
In my case I didn’t know how YOT came up when trying to spell YOU..musta been a mistake I did…
SOLUTION:
Your T9 is a bit smarter than you think. I found a way to use Y-browser to edit the predictive text dictionary file on windows with notepad, but there is no point in doing that or resetting your dictionary…when you can just “teach” your phone the new word…
HOW:
Open a new text message box as if you want to send a new text…..make sure predictive text is on…type the word you want..for example “you” (i get “yot” as my first word)… now..make sure it is underlined… so “yot” is underlined..so far.. ok hit the * key so it changes the word…my next word comes up is “you”… now that “you” comes up, hit space…..( 0 )
Do this 5-10 0r 20 times in a row..how ever much it takes for the word “you” to come up first….our phone “learns” the word as you leave it from underlined mode to the next word…the more FREQUENT you use any word, it moves up the list to priority and becomes your first word of choice…make sure you do this in the same text message box…..so it took my phone about 15-20 “yots” to turn into “you”s..haha..and my text box looked like this before I was happy with the new word again:
yot you you you you
you you you you you
you you you you you
you you you you you
you you you
I know alot of you knew this, but others didn’t and still suffer with a stupid word for the first choice…I was getting frustrated with “yot” lol and my mistake of leaving it in that mode and changing it the wrong way, made the phone think I use YOT alot
And do this for other words…TEACH YOUR PHONE your favorite word and it moves up the list of priority words..the way you teach the phone is mentioned above

“I found a way to use Y-browser to edit the predictive text dictionary file on windows with notepad”
are you able to share this method too? Could be useful for when I change handsets so I can easily bulk add my own words. Thanks.
Not A Solution! Shouldn’t even be posted as one…
While technically advance, the UI of Nokia N82, for lack of better word, sucks! Editing words for the T9 is trivial on all Sony Ericsons, just to show it can be done and done well.
