It is quite unfair!!!
Most of the SE pics are out of focus; it is like you tried to do it on purpose; I own a K850 and it focuses perfectly; it is hard to miss the focus, even if you try to, so I guess you spent quite a lot of time trying to make the k850 look bad!!!

The photos are much better with N82 and i know because I own both k850i and N82 . If you want the best camera and overall phone the choice is N82

if you compare the two picture in detail, the blue road sign attached on the overhead walkway from k850i is still readable that the left path is going to BRNO while from N82 is totally unreadable, please check it

If you can not possibly miss the focus, then how come these K850i pictures are not as good as the N82. I think overall the N82 takes better pictures then the K850i. I’ve seen quite some comparison sites and I can conclude that every time.
I also expected more from sony. I own the K800i and it takes great pictures. I’m a real sony fan, but after seeing this, I think i’d go for the N82 if i had to choose.
Nearly all the K850i pictures have problems with white. Most of the pictures have a strange white blur over the image if there’s any white on it. Nokia handles this way better.
And also, if the K850 would take better pictures if put in the correct settings, the N82 should also be capable of making way better pictures if all the settings are optimal.

hmmm nice try,,,, i don’t think there is any possibility for the n82 to take better pics than k850i with all those functions in its camera. i own a k850i and checked the n82 last night.
well,,, it has the same MPixel… the only way the pic can get better is its functions. the k850i has a better focus for sure.

hmm… nice try too, but there aren’t any more functions on the K850 then the best pic. All the other standard photo functions are on both of the phones.
And people keep saying the Firmware update will solve the problem. A firmware upgrade will however, hardly improve the photo quality.
I am still going for the n82. I just still can’t understand why people see the Sony as the better one. The focus really isn’t any better, (look at the sigar guy). Secondly, the K850 cannot show red on the pictures. On other sites is saw a picture taken from a red Mini Cooper, and the K850 mad the car PINK. There are more problems with pink. On every building edge or around trees, there’s a pink line. And, maybe the strongest argument for the N82, look at the car in the poorly lit office room. You can hardly see ANY details on it. The N82 makes this way better.
I think the people saying the Sony is better are just Sony fans.

I strongly recommend the N82 which its most focusing on functional camera if compare to SEK850i just only functional on the optimal camera phone. In case, SE distinctive quality is based on picture pixels, & sounds.. but in the overall comparisons for Nokia & SE are based on each user requirements.

For me, I preferable use of Nokia N series instead of SE W series.. The distinguishers on monitor pixels, and functional control on each model made by Nokia & SE.In conclusion, N82 doing the outstandings one for year 2008 with affordable price same with SEK850i. I satisfied with N82 produced by Nokia.. SE is my 2nd choice..

hey!! who took those all pictures on that k850? it seem they don’t understand how to use ‘the best camera phone’.
even when u got both of them,u need to really2 know how to use them.
the K850 has better focus than N82,it so much depend on how stable u hold the device.
just like usually,nokia’s camera has a problem with the saturation,it sometimes get oversaturated!! it’s a real hard work when u try 2 fix it on photoshop. but that doesn’t happens when u edit pictures from K850, it’s an easy easy thing to do.
i’m not a nokia hater,i just have ‘em both too.and i start getting frustated with this n82 picts! it so much oversaturated! specially when the lights are unstable.
u won’t be frustated with a K850. IT’S NOT A PROMO!!! i’ve tried every attemps that an n82 can do,but it never getting as easier as K850. Just made me CRAZY!
And i think whoever says that N82 is a better camera phone than K850, is the ones who don’t know, or they just don’t understand how to use a K850. However, it’s a CYBERSHOT. It’s a legend.

There may be some problems with cameras of some Nokia Phones,But not all of’em r bad.You just can’t beat N82 by SEK850,And I disagree with _R_A_H_P_2_X,to prevent Symbian phones from downloading viruses,one can use Mobile anti virus softwares or can use a good anti virus in PC.And the plus point of Symbian phones is u can both run Java n symbian apps in Nseries.But u can’t do that with SE.

sony eri k850 is great its just absolutely brilliant… u should know how to use it properly the one who took d pics is obviously no idea whats hes doing thats a SHAME!!! k850 s just like a pc too and unlimited options. it has touch buttons as well ds phone s so near to iphone! high quality technology Sony ericsson is well known for their high quality and high performance gadgets they will never ever let you down.

It’s obvious the person who took the pictures with the SE k850i is a total freaking idiot who don’t even know how to use a conventional camera! What more to say a digital camera. The pictures he took with the k850i is obviously pathetic and like what the others said, he must have done something to the k850i making it unable to perform up to it’s standard. I also own a k850i and last time when I used my friends n82 to take a picture and compared it with my k850i, it’s clear that the k850i can produce a picture of better quality. Even my friend agreed with my statement as he also said he was also disappointed with the pictures printed out from the n82. He said it totally sucks. That’s why if you want to do some comparison, do it with guts! Don’t screw up the settings of the k850i to delude us readers! Shame on you!!!

Well, if it’s true what your’re saying general, there have been a few dozens of people who all screwed up the settings of the k850 and deluded us, because ALL the comparison sites show the same thing: N82 beats K850.
And think of it yourself; these people just write a review of both phones, independently. WHY IN GODS NAME would they screw up the settings of one of the phones? You cannot possibly think of that without laughing about how stupid that is.

Mark, I have to concur with you but seriously don’t you think that the outdoor shooting is a bit bias especially the part where there’s heavy fog which is the second picture. I think that the “photographer” might have leave his fingerprints on the lens producing blur pictures. From my experience, sony phone with clean lenses can produce pictures of high quality.

HaHa, many people around me had using both phones. Conclusion,
N82 with high speed dual core CPU and 128MB RAM is running smooth.
Nokia with Carl Zeiss and brighter xenon flash is adequate. It’s a smarth phone too so useful.

On the other hand, K850i do the opposite. Unstable OS and slow. Weak ‘xenon flash’.

However, when we look at both of the phones, we should choose what we really wanted. And feel comfortable with it.

Nokia has it’s own symbian for gods sake, that’s like having billion dollars with u’re face on it I have read in the articals and someone menchaned that the c905 has 8.1 mgpx, well nokia have response for that N97 bro, it’s way way way hotter and better than c905. Valvot, personally I think that your opinion is freaking bias towards nokia. So what if they have good lens or not? Lens are merely for those who are amateurs at taking photographs. Oh, and for your information, k850i also uses carl zeiss optics just that it’s not tessar lens. So think for yourself, carl zeiss + cyber shot = superb picture quality. Bet you don’t know that k850i have carl zeiss, freaking nokia fan… One more thing, n97 only have 5MP so it’s impossible to compete with c905. Well let me tell you somethin, it doesn’t matter what megapixels they have, the human eye can’t register more then 5 mgpx per camera, it’s the lens the way it recognises the light, and it does matter, it does matter a lot what kind of lens and optics it has, cause you can’t shoot with lens or optics that are made by me or you and to get a quality picture, get it? I don’t get it. Why do people argue over these things? Haiz….Mobile phones are starting to lose their purpose since people are arguing and comparing nowadays. The main function of a phone is to receive calls and texting. The other media’s are just add on. So what the hell is wrong if a phone is better and the other is worse? There is a proverb in chinese saying “Everything has its advantages and disadvantages.” Some of the K850i pictures triumph over the N82 while some N82’s pictures triumph over K850i’s. The bottom line is, no goddamn phone is perfect and we should just be contented with what we got, be it SE or Nokia. I hope you guys can reach a compromise and stop this childish arguments, they are raising doubts in SE and Nokia users. Thank you.=)

I agree with you that lenses are important but we can’t deny the fact that camera technology also plays an important role in the picture quality produced. Some technologies can give better color contrast while other can give sharper details. Now I would like to state that I own both SE and Nokia phones so why in the world would I team up with one of the groups? I understand very well that nokia is a marvelous phone in terms of functions while SE is outstanding in terms of entertainment. So Valvot, lets end our argument and make peace. N82 wins over SE k850, even N78 has better camera than the SE k850 which is surprising cause N78 has a 3.2mpx camera. We tested all three phones, and some other, adjusting best possible capture modes on each phone and here are the standings:

n82 overall is the best ..it is symbian this means lots of great apps and games on it ..these cannot run on se models.moreover the video resolution is 640 by 480 and in mp4 format this means crystal clear vids..does the se models have this ????? the pics on overall quality for n 82 are better than se..so N82 IS THE BEST AND THATS ALL.

I must add my input in this debate, however old it is. K850i and the N82, comparing them are like comparing apples and oranges. N82 is a phone with wifi, smartphone capabilities, high quality video recording, therefore it can be described as a multimedia smartphone. K850i is primarily a cameraphone, without some of the features of n82. Some people do not need those features anyway, and since k850i is cheaper than n82, why spend the extra money for features you don’t need? K850i and N82 are totally different phones to compare. N82 is not better than K850i, and K850i is not better than N82
What they have in common is their canera, which is the whole point of the article.

Well no bias here, but I honestly feel that the n82 is definitely superior in terms of colours. k850i’s colours are slightly washed out, and very slightly blueish, but that can be easily corrected with simple graphic editing. n82’s are more pleasing. Detail levels are similar. N82 has a brighter flash, as seen from the comparison, while the k850i makes up for that with another led flash that works well for video recording and situations when the xenon flash would overexpose the entire image. Also a brighter flash = higher power consumption, which can take a toll on a phone’s battery, which would be used for phonecalls, smsing, music, besides the camera.

IMO, the n82 has the better camera image quality overall, but the k850i camera has its own advantages, such as lower power consumption from the flash, and features such as bestpic.

And now , for the overall for all aspects of the these two phones, frankly speaking, NOKIA N82 has a better overall performance.for example, it can support most formats,has 3.5mm jack(which is very convenient),auto-rotate,3.5G,tv output,GPS,WIFI and High quality video recording etc and most people use these features a lot in their daily work. we can get lots and lots of infomations from the free internet via wifi,if we use it wisely. and for the video, people can use it to look up for their mistakes in sports when recording video, ie. tennis, and badminton ,for example. no offence. but as i have just said, if you like any one of them, go ahead and buy it. to be ridiculous, buy both for your own satisfaction but seldom people do that… good dabate anyway..i love it!muahzzz…
